What it does

/market-research builds a structured competitive analysis: who the players are, how they're positioned, where the gaps are, and what a new entrant or repositioning story could be. The output covers direct competitors, indirect competitors, and adjacent markets.

This is different from /market-sizing. Sizing tells you how big the market is. Research tells you who's already in it and where the open space is.

When to use it

  • Before writing a positioning document or strategy memo
  • When a new competitor enters your space and you need to understand them fast
  • When preparing for a board conversation about market dynamics

How to trigger it

Say: research the market for [category]

Example: research the market for AI tools for product managers

What you need

Works without integrations. The skill uses web search for current competitor information. For best results, tell it your own product's current positioning so it can evaluate the competitive landscape relative to where you stand.
